APRIL & MAY The season got off to an inauspicious start after being outplayed against Collingham but managing to take 2 points and then losing to high flying North Leeds by 3 wickets. Guiseley had to wait for their first win at home to Rawdon in May after fielding a weakened side they dismissed Rawdon for 170 with Peter Graham taking 4-38. In Reply Guiseley built a number of useful partnerships but lost wickets at crucial times but scrapped home with 4 wickets to spare (Howard Reeve 29, Chris Thompson 48 and Craig Chaplin 24). Guiseley next beat Burley by 47 runs in a low scoring match on a very damp day but a loss to Steeton and a hard fought 2 points at Green Lane in another low scoring game. The bank holiday saw Menston arrive at Guiseley needing the points (as did we!!) and a close game was settled with Guiseley coming out on top by 2 wickets. Peter Graham took 5-16 as Menston were shot out for 96. In reply Guiseley lost their first four wickets for 32 runs but Simon Ross 33 not out and Neil Allitt 12 not out saw Guiseley home. JUNE Guiseley were then humbled by Follifoot away and could only get 2 points against the spin of Derryk Parry but a defiant 79 not out from Mark Ross almost saw Guiseley home. Beckwithshaw were the next visitors at Guiseley as a rain reduced match of 20 overs was played out and Beckwithshaw ran away with a 6 wicket win. Guiseley faced Adel away on 22nd June needing to win if they were to make a fight for the league championship at top of the table Adel. Guiseley ran out the victors by 27 runs with Pete Graham taking a six wicket haul, Mark Ross scoring 59 and Glen Taylor scoring 45 as Guiseley produced the best team performance of the season. The following week saw Guiseley's Jekyll and Hyde Routine Surface as they were soundly beaten at home to Bilton. JULY  With half of the season gone Guiseley were 16 points behind pace setters Follifoot and only 11 points from a relegation place held then by Menston. Collingham were the visitors to Guiseley in the first game of the season reverse. Guiseley got off to a poor start on a bowler friendly wicket but a patient innings from Glen Taylor of 63 and 32 from Chris Thompson set Guiseley up for a defendable total of 175. In Reply Collingham were always struggling against some tight Guiseley bowling with Neil Allitt taking 3-29 but Collingham dug deep to finish on 148-7 and claim 2 points. Guiseley next visited North Leeds but were never in the game as they were convincingly beaten by 5 wickets after being skittled out for 127 (Richard Whitaker 24 and Neil Allitt 24). Guiseley in desperate need of points played away at Rawdon and after winning the toss posted a useful 240 (Mark Ross 55, Ian Chaplin 42 and Simon Ross 39 not out). In reply Guiseley restricted the home side to 105-5 at one point but a captains innings from Dennis Rock saw Rawdon home and left Guiseley deep in trouble.  The following week (27th July) saw Burley play at Guiseley in a relegation zone battle in which Burley were to triumph putting Guiseley further into the mire. Burley won the toss and batted on a very good track rattling up 244-5 with Chris Thompson taking 3-35 wickets and Neil Allitt 2-55 as Burley ran riot. In reply Guiseley were shot out for an embarrassing 109 with only Craig Chaplin scoring 43 and Chris Thompson 40 getting into double figures. AUGUST Guiseley now on a three match losing streak were in trouble and only 8 points off the second from bottom team Menston. Next were the form team in the Aire Wharfe league Steeton but a well paced 56 from Glen Taylor, 22 from Chris Thompson and a rapid 21 not out from Steve Thompson (captain) gave Guiseley hope in posting 162. Steeton struggled against the bowling of Peter Graham (19 overs, 4-56) and spin bowler Chris Wain but managed to get to the final ball needing 4 to win. Fortunately for Guiseley only two was taken and the four points received was gratefully received. in the following week (10th August) heavy rain turned Guiseley's field quite literally into a duck pond and all of the league games were called off as the weather won the day.  Guiseley travelled to Menston (17th) knowing that 6 points would leave them in a good position to avoid relegation against a much stronger Menston side than they had faced earlier in the season. Guiseley were outplayed in all departments despite a bright opening over in which Mark Ross hit a six and a four off the first two deliveries of the innings and only chris Thompson (40), Ian Chaplin (22) and Neil Allitt's (20) late flourish got Guiseley to a respectable 160. Some wayward bowling then gave Menston aeasy ride in completing a 9 wicket victory and closing the gap to just 2 points for the final relegation position. Follifoot visited Guiseley (24th) and a determined Guiseley posted 251-5 with Glen Taylor top scoring with 74, supported by Chris Thompson with 68 and Steve Thompson 34 not out. Follfoot were never in it from the start and had settled on four points long before the last over was bowled reaching 206-8 as Andrew tried in vain to take the last two wickets claiming 6 wickets for 73 runs. Still needing points to avoid relegation, Guiseley traveled into North Yorkshire to play Beckwithshaw and an exciting game saw Guiseley edge home by four wickets. Beckwithshaw set a challenging total of 177-8 after Guiseley had bowled steadily all day with Peter Graham again Guiseley's best bowler with 6 wickets for 50 runs. In reply Guiseley were in trouble at 24-3 but the dependable Glen Taylor led a recovery scoring 24 runs before losing his wicket with the score on 74 at drinks. Ian Chaplin (54 not out) and Howard Reeve (25) then put on a 70 partnership to take the score onto 149 before Howard was out but by then the game had swung Guiseley's way and Chaplin hit the winning runs to keep Guiseley above the relegation zone. SEPTEMBER With two games left until the end of the season and with Rawdon already relegated it was between Burley, Guiseley and Menston as to who would spend next year in Division 'B'. Guiseley's next opponents were league champions Adel and Guiseley were in no mood to celebrate as they got stuck in and bowled Adel out for a paltry 160 with Peter Graham leading the way with 22 overs for 44 runs and 4 wickets. Mark Ross was Guiseley's saviour scoring an assured 84 not out ably supported by pinch hitter Steve Thompson (26) and by Chris Thompson (34) as Guiseley romped home by 7 wickets bringing the champions back down to earth.  In the final game of the season Guiseley required 2 points to stay up as Burley were 5 points behind and Menston on level points. Steve Thompson won the toss and inserted Bilton as Guiseley defended from the off to asure their Division 'A' status. Bilton responded by scoring 210-9 despite the efforts of Chris Thompson 3-33 and Mark Ross 2-22. With tabs being kept on the Burley game Guiseley were batting steadily lead by Chris Thompson (58) and Glen Taylor (30) but the news arrived through that Burley could only manage 2 points at Beckwithshaw and Guiseley knew they were safe. Playing some over aggressive shots they were eventually defeated by 77 runs with only Peter Graham 18 not out at the end. Guiseley will be looking for a better league performance next year as they search for more silverware  WADDILOVE CUP REPORT While Guiseley's league form was poor the cup was different as a string of fine performances against Bolton Villas (Mark Ross 110, Glen Taylor 79), Tong Park and Follifoot saw them advance into the Semi Final of the cup where they met Pool. Pool won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a good batting track. But there was a little assistance for the bowlers as well as two run outs meant that Pool could not put together a lasting partnership as they were shot out for 119. Chris Wain, Chris Thompson and Mark Ross each took 2 wickets. In reply Guiseley got off to a good start but soon lost Howard Reeve for 7, the ever reliable Mark Ross weighed in with 36 as he and Glen Taylor (41 not out) saw Guiseley home by 8 wickets and with 20 overs to spare. Guiseley won the final against Hall Park by 38 runs as Mark Ross score 132 and took 2 wickets as he collected the man of the match trophy.
