GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Adel (Home) - League
|
|
26th April 2003 |
|
|
|
New skipper Mark Ross got off to great start against Adel in the
season opener at Guiseley by defeating Adel by 7 wickets thanks
to the new arrivals to the club.
|
|
| Guiseley won the toss and inserted Adel on what
seemed to be a dry, flat decent batting pitch, the like of
which had not been seen at Guiseley in April for some years!!
Adel did not waste the opportunity and quickly racked up 78
for the first wicket with J Francas (39) and M Dallaston
(42)doing the damage. The first change bowlers of Mark Best
and Chris Underwood soon reaped reward with some accurate
bowling by taking both openers wickets. |
|
| From a steady opening wicket platform, Adel
wickets were falling at regualr intervals as they slumped to
140-7 with only N Smith (35) providing any resistance to Best
and Underwood. Adel were eventually dismissed for 172 with
Mark Best taking 4-38 off 18 overs and Chris Underwood 3-44
off 14 overs. |
| |
| In reply Guiseley got off to a terrible start
as new skipper Mark Ross and Howard Reeve were dismissed to
leave Guiseley 3-2 by Adel overseas A McCammond. Chris
Underwood and Ian Chaplin then launched an assault on the Adel
bowlers as they plundered a 128 run partnership off just 26
overs before Chaplin was bowled by McCammond (3-92). |
| |
| Rain then interrupted the charge and 3 overs
were lost but this made no difference to new batsman Mark best
who scored 23 not out off just 9 balls and Chris Underwood (96
not out) as 41 runs were scored off just 21 balls to seal
victory with 15.3 overs still left. |
| |
| A brilliant performance by the team but
especially by new boys Chris and Mark, hopefully this can be
carried through the season!! |
