| |
| The conditions were overcast and in the favour of
the bowlers however both brothers began to tick the board over
ensuring the bad ball was put to the boundary and runs were
taken at every opportunity. A partnership of 115 was made
before skipper Mark fell for a hard worked 60 when the score
was on 126. |
| |
| Howard Reeve ( 5 ) and Simon Ross ( 47 ) fell in
quick succession and two valuable knocks from Mark Best ( 22 )
and Steve Thompson ( 31 ) boosted the total to 207 with some
clean heating and improvisation. |
| |
| The pick of the Bilton bowlers were M.Rasool ( 2
for 32 ) and L Jarvis ( 2 for 28 ). |
| |
| After tea it was Bilton’s turn to reply and got
off to a fairly slow start due to the accurate bowling of
Guiseley’s opening pair Browny ( 1 for 35 ) and Pales .
Browny removed Mr “Happy” Corish when the score was 22 and
this brought to the wicket the prolific run scorer Phillips.
Both Phillips and ex Guiseley player Murray began to eat away
at the total with Phillips leading the way with some clean
hitting. |
| |
| Skipper Ross brought into the attack a man with
bags of experience and although plagued with injury P C
bowled magnificently
( 1 for 13 ) removing the danger man Phillips caught
superbly by the flying Simon Ross ( Fortunately the ball was
caught by the hand which hadn’t any broken fingers). |
| |
| Another man with experience Mark Best proved
invaluably by ripping out the Bilton middle order whilst been
economical at the same time ending with Man of The Match
figures of 4 for 22. |
| |
| There was also some fine outfielding thus
preventing valuable runs been scored and a special mention
should go to young Chris Wain for a fine display and for
running out another of Bilton’s danger men D.Shuffe for 35. |
| |
| By the time the skipper Ross took the
responsibility of bowling the last over it was nearly pitch
black. Needing 13 off the last over to win Bilton could only
manage 6 and Rossy finished it in style by clean bowling the
batsman with the last delivery. |
| |
| Guiseley had done it and the sight of jubilation
the players made after the last ball just showed what this win
really meant. |
