GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Collingham (Away) - League
|
|
14th June 2003 |
|
|
|
Guiseley went to Collingham boyed by their win over Follifoot
were looking for a better performance than the previous week.
With the weather sunny and hot Mark Ross promptly won the toss
and inserted Collingham.
|
|
| Collingham got off to a rapid if fortuitous
start with both openers being dropped and taking their chances
as they raced to 99 from 25 overs before Chris Underwood
struck to remove M cooke for an aggressive 69. Guiseley then
failed to make the inroads they had wanted despite some
excellent bowling from Mark Best (2-74) and Chris Underwood
(1-28), but poor fielding allowed Collingham to build some
valuable partnerships. |
|
| Andrew Paley (3-69) returned for the last 15
overs after his impressive first spell and received some
special treatment from G Rafique (56) despatching him for 37
off three overs (sorry Pales had to be mentioned!!).
Collingham eventually finished on 224-7. |
| |
| Guiseley got off to a great start with Mark
Ross and Greame Wolfenden scoring at will before Guiseley had
a mini slump losing Ross (31), Wolfenden (18) and Chris
Underwood (8) with 63 on the board. Things looked bleak
especially as Collingham had gone defensive by as they looked
to secure 4 points. Mark Best (46) and Howard Reeve (23) did
their best to revive the Guiseley challenge with a brief
flurry but when Reeve departed Guiseley slumped to 156-6
chasing after the bowling. |
| |
| It was left to Simon Ross (37 not out) and
Richard Whitaker (16 not out) to bat out for a draw on a disappointing
day as Guiseley lost more ground on Menston at the top of the
table. |
