GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Green Lane (Away) - League
|
|
3rd May 2003 |
|
|
|
Guiseley came away from Nunroyd park with a 1 point draw after
rain and the 'bad light' brought a dramatic climax to the game.
On a damp wicket Guiseley won the toss and inserted the Green
Lane team minus ex-Guiseley player Barry Mcormick into bat but
containing Craig Chaplin and Neil Allitt.
|
|
| Scoring was slow at the start as Andrew Paley
and Marcus Brown kept things tight on a lively wicket. Brown
struck first removing the dangerous Chris Cay and Craig
Chaplin was soon to follow as Green lane slumped to 37-4. Only
some stubborn batting from home skipper Garfield Williams (45)
prevented Green Lane being shot out for less than 100. Some
tight bowling from Mark Best (3-36)and Chris Underwood (3-27)
at the end meant that Guiseley were only chasing 123 for
victory.Despite not picking up a wicket Andrew Paley was very
economical (15 overs for 25 runs) while Marcus Brown (4-30)
removed the top 4 batsmen. |
|
| With the weather closing in Guiseley set off in
pursuit of 123 at a steady rate with Howard Reeve smashing
boundaries before a mix-up with skipper Mark Ross (10) saw the
skipper run out with the score 36. Reeve then departed for 36
with the score on 64 and persistent rain saw the players leave
the field for a frustrating hour. |
| |
| When the rain cleared Guiseley were left with
10 overs to score 59 runs. With wickets in the tent Guiseley
were favorites to win. Glen Taylor (18 not out) and Chris
Underwood (24 not out) set off at express pace scoring 34 off
4 overs despite some less than sporting slow play tactics from
Green Lane. With the light diminishing (but playable) and the
Green Lane fielders complaining they could not see the ball
the umpires brought the players off with 25 still needed and 6
overs left. |
| |
| A disappointing end to a good performance by
the team, but promising for the rest of the season. |
