GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Menston (Home) - League
|
|
7th June 2003 |
|
|
|
Guiseley were seeking to knock Menston off the top of the table
with a victory at Nethermoor but were to suffer a draw after an
indifferent display.
|
|
| The Guiseley bowlers were pumped up as they restricted
Menston to just 102-3 from the opening 33 overs with Andrew
Paley bowling very tightly only going for 10 runs off his
opening 10 over spell and taking 2 wickets. Menston played
some intelligent cricket in pushing the ball around for
singles and hitting the bad ball for four as they scrapped to
200-6 after their 50 overs with Ned Taylor (66) and Richard
Taylor (39) leading the charge. |
|
| Andrew Paley and Chris Wain were the pick of
the Guiseley bowlers taking 2-38 and 2-48 respectively. |
| |
| In reply Guiseley got off to a good start with
Greame Wolfenden and Mark Ross putting on 50 for the first
wicket before Wolfenden skyed an easy catch to Mid-on out for
26. Guiseley looking on course to get all 6 points lost
concentration and slumped to 103-4. It was left to Ian Chaplin
(73) to lead a charge for the line but when he was out 2 overs
from the end and 30 runs required then all hope was lost for
Guiseley of securing the maximum. Guiseley played out the last
over to finish on 177, 29 short of victory with 3 wickets
left. |
| |
| The pick of the Menston bowlers was the
excellent Jason Scott 4-72 and Martin Knowles 1-31 (off 15
overs). |
| |
| A win next week against Follifoot is a must if
the wheels are not to fall off the Gusieley title charge after
being outplayed by Menston. |
