GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Otley (Away) - League
|
|
27th May 2003 |
|
|
|
On a warm sunny day day Guiseley travelled to Steeton looking to
take 12 points from the wekends matches following an easy win
against Steeton. The infamous 'Guiseley glass back' had taken
it's toll on several players forcing skipper and opener Mark
Ross to drop himself down the order.
|
|
| Guiseley got off to a steady start with Simon
Ross and Graeme Wolfenden putting on 49 before Ross fell for
31. The Guiseley batsmen struggled to impose themselves
against the disciplined Otley bowlers with Mark Ross (36),
Chris Underwood (31) and Ian Chaplin (24) failing to capitilse
on good starts all being run out. It was left to Steve
Thompson to marshall the tail to a respectable 206 for 8. |
|
| Robert Atkinson (2-66) and andrew Burke (2-59)
were the main wicket takers as the Otley bowlers plugged away
in the heat. |
| |
| In reply, Otley got off to a disastrous start
losing opener Sam Smith first ball to Pete Graham and were
then in deeper trouble when ex Guiseley player David Brady
edged a Andrew Paley deliver into the gloves of Steve
Thompson. Robert Atkinson and david Taylor tried in vain to
push the score along against some tight bowling from Andrew
Paley and some excellent fielding from young Chris Wain (2 run
outs). |
| |
| Otley's middle order struggled on and they
eventually ran out of steam 29 runs short with 7 wickets down. |
