GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Steeton (Home) - League
|
|
24th May 2003 |
|
|
|
With skipper Mark Ross (back), Howard Reeve (Holiday) and Mark
Best (Holiday) missing, this was always going to be a tricky tie
but Guiseley sailed through the test by 7 wickets. On a damp
track Guiseley won the toss and inserted Steeton expecting the
wicket to be a bit lively.
|
|
| Alex Howarth (31) set off making light of the
pitch conditions but the Guiseley bowlers soon got going and
reduced Steeton to 85-5. G Boulton set about posting a decent
score in the face of some tight Guiseley bowling but with
wickets falling around him Steeton limped to 149-9. |
|
| In reply Simon Ross (41) got Guiseley off to a
fantastic start clubbing both opening bowlers to all parts of
the ground before mis-timing a pull shot to leave Guiseley on
51-1. Glen Taylor (32) in partnership with Graeme Wolfenden
put on 66 before Taylor was out soon followed by Chris
Underwood as Guiseley wobbled a bit. |
| |
| It was left to stand-in skipper Ian Chaplin to
hit the winning runs as 'Wolfie' completed a magnificent 54
not out to see Guiseley home by 7 wickets. |
| |
| A better performance all-round, roll-on Otley!!! |
