GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Upper Wharfedale (Home) - Cup-R1
|
|
11th May 2003 |
|
|
|
Guiseley traveled to Upper Wharfedale as defending champions
looking for a victory with high hopes of making a fifth final in
succession. Upper Wharfedale won the toss and elected to bat on
a good batting track but with the threat of rain showers, this
could have proved a match winning decision.
|
|
| Guiseley got off to a great start by removing
opener D Whitfield for 1 and with Andrew Paley tying up one
end runs were difficult to come by. Upper Wharfedale battled
hard and none more so than their overseas player J Agars who
hit a magnificent 77 but was not supported by his team as they
capitulated from 90-2 to 131 all out. Andrew Paley and Mark
Ross were the pick of the bowlers as 'Pales' went for just 7
runs off his 6 overs while Mark Ross removed the dangerous J
Agars for a return of 3-14 off 8 overs. |
|
| In reply Howard Reeve tucked into a large
helping of poor bowling as he smashed a quick fire 98 not out
off just 47 balls and was supported by skipper Mark Ross who
finished on 27 not out as Guiseley completed a comfortable 10
wicket win just before the rain arrived. |
| |
| Credit to Upper Wharfedale (nice bunch of
blokes!!) for playing the game in good spirit despite the
onslaught from 'Reevy'. Follifoot at home will provide a
different proposition in the next round. |
