GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
BOLTON VILLAS (Away) - Cup R1
2nd June 2002 |
The 2nd XI began their defence of the Birtwhistle Cup in commanding style by defeating Bolton Villas of the 3rd Division by 86 runs.
| On a good batting surface Guiseley were disappointed to only amass 186 all out with 3 overs of their allotted 45 remaining and generally batted in a slipshod manner. However some spirited bowling from Stoker, Patchett and Marriage did its best to keep the Guiseley batsmen in check although they had no response to Ian Colquhoun who made an excellent 55. |
| |
| Any thoughts of a shock win were put to rest early on in the Bolton Villas reply with Steve Dickinson and Marcus Brown each bowling straight through their 9 overs conceding only 18 runs in the first 18 overs whilst taking 2 wickets. |
| Steve Dickinson remarkably conceded his first run on the last ball on his 9th over finishing with figures of 2 for 1. Despite some excellent late order hitting from Andy Stoker the Villas replied petered out at 100 leaving |
| Guiseley victorious again in the Birtwhistle
Cup extending our record of unbeaten games. A trip to another 3rd Division side, Tong Park,
awaits in the next round. |
