GUISELEY 2nd Team VERSUS
FOLIFOOT (Away) - Qtr Final Cup
|
|
30th June 2002 |
|
|
|
On a miserable day at Follifoot, Guiseley were to relinquish
their grip on the Birtwhistle cup after four years of dominance.
With 6 second team players called up to the first team to cover
injury's and holiday's a number of third team players and
our retired chairman Roger Waite got the call.
|
|
| Guiseley won the toss and decided to bat which
turned into a nightmare decision as the team slumped to 39 for
6 with only David Ross (20) getting into double figures. Phil
Thomas (28) entered the fray at this point with Lincoln Wray
(40 Not Out) putting on 32 before Guiseley slumped again to 93
for 9. Paul Nicholson then supported Wray pushing the score up
to 141 before Nicholson fell. The pick of the Follifoot
bowlers was D Nudds at 9 overs, 5 maidens, 9 runs for two
wickets. |
| |
| If Guiseley were to win then had to take
early wickets. Marcus Brown and Steve Dickinson bowled well
early on reducing Follifoot to 18 for two but Tim Holgate (43)
and M Bailey (30) steadied the ship putting on 74 for the
fourth wicket. Guiseley's bowling was a bit wayward as they
searched for a wicket but Ian Colquhoun kept things tight with
a spell of 22-2 off his 9 overs but Follifoot were not to be
denied and taken over the line by R Symmonds. |
|
| With the Cup lost until next year we will have
to settle for the league this year to keep our record of
winning a trophy every year since 1997 (we hope!!). |
