GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS NORTH LEEDS (Home) - League

4th May 2002

The 2nd XI began their title challenge in earnest at N Leeds with a comprehensive win by 5 wickets. On a warm and sunny day Guiseley won the toss and elected to field.
Some tight bowling by Adrian Threapleton and especially Marcus Brown restricted N Leeds to just 71 for 3 at drinks after 21 overs and a double breakthrough by Ian Colquhoun shortly afterwards ate into the heart of the N Leeds batting line-up. However a good riposte by Graham Wilcox with 47 and 13 year old Tim Jackson, who will surely go a long way in the game, with 16 eventually helped the score to a respectable 163 for 8 at the close.
The Guiseley reply started confidently with Simon Ross and Graeme Wolfenden adding 56 for the first wicket in just 13 overs before Wolfenden succumbed to the guile of Brian Stevens eventually falling for 28.
Simon Ross was joined briefly by his father, David, until he fell in the same way for an excellent 36 in just 48 balls. Richard Whitaker and Chris Cooper fell cheaply and the score stood at 90 for 4 when skipper Nick Fraser joined David Ross at the crease. They batted steadily and sensibly to add 62 and take the side to the brink of victory before Fraser was run out with the score on 152. However two quick boundaries from Sean Yeates sealed a good victory with David Ross finishing on an excellent 56 not out.
