GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
ADEL (Home) - League
7th SEPTEMBER 2002 |
A resounding victory over champions Adel eased Guiseley's relegation worries last Saturday.
| On a showery day, play started on time but was soon interrupted with Adel's "pinch hitter" John Francas struggling to replicate his recent form , he fell victim to a good catch by Simon Ross off the the bowling of Andy
Paley. Two further interruptions and some excellent bowling from Pete Graham meant that Adel found it hard to gather momentum in their innings with only Adel stalwart Dave Standring showing anything like championship form with a typically hard hit 61. |
| |
| The introduction of spinner Chris Wain accounted for the experienced Ian Jones and in form skipper Stuart Howie which left Adel struggling on 94 for 7. After losing 14 overs to the rain, Adel needed to declare after 43 overs to enable all the points options to remain open. Unfortunately they felt they did not have enough runs to do this and set out to bat their full 50
overs. They managed to add just 13 more runs in 6 overs to their total before Chris Thompson took the final wicket to leave the visitors on 160 all out, and Guiseley 38 overs to get them. The Guiseley reply started steadily with 27 coming from the first 10
overs. |
| |
| Steve Thompson took the decision to promote himself up the order to no. 3 to give the innings some impetus, and did so to good effect. With the departure of Craig Chaplin with the score on 42, it brought him together with Mark Ross. With a mixture of some hard hitting and positive running between the wickets they added 55 in 9 overs to take the game away from Adel. Chris Thompson put the final nails in the Adel coffin with 34 runs in 19 balls, but the real hero was Mark who batted throughout for a magnificent 84 not out to see Guiseley through to a 7 wicket victory and six crucial points. |
| |
| Guiseley now need 2 points from their final game at Bilton to ensure Division A status next year. |
