GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
BECKWITHSHAW (HOME) - League

After the rain which was akin to a tropical monsoon on Friday evening the Nethermoor pitch was left resembling a boating lake. By Saturday morning there were still huge lakes covering parts of the ground, and there was little if no chance of play in the afternoon. But drastic situations require drastic measures. A water pump was hired, buckets, forks and wheelbarrows used and with the help of the "waterhog" a team set about the task of clearing as much water as possible to try and get the ground fit for Sunday's cup match at the least, but with favourable drying conditions during the afternoon it meant that play was possible on Saturday with a 5pm start.

| Having lost the toss Guiseley set about their task of scoring of scoring as many runs as possible in their allotted 20
overs. A re-jigged batting order saw skipper Steve Thompson score 21 with opening partner Mark Ross, being caught out early for 5. Chris Thompson top scored with 28, including 2 towering sixes to leave Beckwithshaw chasing 99 for victory. |
|
| 'Shaws ex-skipper Steve Walmsley was the mainstay of their innings with 46 before being bowled by P.C. leaving the visitors with 15 to win from their final 2
overs. Simon Barker was the 'Shaw hero hitting 2 sixes to give them the full six points which now brings them level with ourselves on 24 points. |
|
| A disappointing result, especially after all the hard work involved in getting the game on, but the general consensus was that it was a good game of cricket to play in and an excellent one to watch. |
