GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
BECKWITHSHAW (Away) - League
31st AUGUST 2002 |
Guiseley visited Beckwithshaw last Saturday and came away with maximum points from a spirited performance which now brings them within just 1 point of the home side. Other relegation rivals Menston having won and Burley Having lost are now all on level 49 points to set up a nail biting finale to the season.
| Having won the toss, Guiseley invited the home side to bat and although their top four batsmen all made the twenties including Simon Barker who went on to make 45 they could not dominate the Guiseley attack, scoring at just over 2 runs per over for the first 35
overs. |
| |
| With 8 wickets in hand however, it was inevitable that an acceleration in run rate would happen. But when it did Pete Graham bowled a superb last 6 over spell, taking 6 wickets for 26 runs to restrict Beckwithshaw to 177 for 9 on a good batting wicket. |
| |
| Things did not go to plan at the start of the Guiseley innings, Mark Ross, Craig Chaplin and Chris Thompson all losing their wickets before the score was 30. Glen Taylor helped the score to 73 for 5 before being caught by Matthew Smart off the bowling of Andy
Gott. This brought together Ian Chaplin and Howard Reeve who formed a match winning partnership, taking the score to 144 with 8 overs
remaing. Ian Chaplin went on to complete his maiden league half century for Guiseley and with assistance from the skipper, after Reeve had departed, knocked off the runs with 3 overs remaining. |

| Another invaluable 6 points! |
