GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS COLLINGHAM (Home) - League

6th JULY 2002

Guiseley picked up their first winning draw of the season when Collingham brought a weakened side to Nethermoor on Saturday. Having lost the toss Guiseley were invited to bat first on a damp and bowler friendly wicket.
Mark Ross was the first batsman to depart, not having troubled the scorers, followed by Howard Reeve when the score was 13. Glen Taylor (63) and Chris Thompson (32) steadied the ship with a solid partnership of 60, and were again the mainstays of the Guiseley innings. The run rate increased dramatically in the final 10 overs with good contributions from the middle order who scored at around 7 runs per over while they were at the crease.
Collingham's reply was as expected, cautious and probably happy batting for 2 points, considering they had their front line batters missing. A brief flurry of runs just before and after drinks, however, took the run rate almost up to the required level and gave the visitors a glimmer of hope, but at a cost, as the visitors collapsed to 107 for 6 with just 10 overs remaining.
Collingham played out the last 10 overs for the inevitable draw, with only Mark Ross taking a wicket in Guiseley's attempt at gaining all 6 points. Wish I'd won the toss!!
