GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
COLLINGHAM (AWAY) - League

27th April 2002 |

A disappointing start to the season saw the 1st XI take only 2 points from the wrong end of a losing draw in their first match. Put into bat, Collingham made a good start reaching 75 for 1 at drinks. The Guiseley bowling was steady but lacked penetration. This was exploited by Cooke and Woodward with only Neil Allitt making any impression taking the wicket of Kilby for 12.
| Collingham, however, failed to capitalise on the situation and when they tried to accelerate towards the end of their innings they found Pete Graham and Andrew Paley in mean mood finishing on 218 for 3 when 230 plus could have have been on the cards. |
| The Guiseley reply never really got out of 2nd gear. The run-rate was never a problem as Mark Ross started with 3 boundaries in the first 2 overs before being trapped LBW for 13. Ian Chaplin was out in similar fashion soon after. The evergreen Glen Taylor was again the mainstay of the Guiseley innings playing shots all around the wicket (most through mid wicket actually) for a cultured 65. Guiseley were on course at 74 for 3 at drinks and looking to increase the run rate for victory. |
| The intoduction of Collingham skipper Steve Booth was the turning point of the Guiseley innings. Bowling his slow left arm very accurately, he made it very difficult to score freely. Chris Thompson was his first victim with a good arm ball. He also accounted for the valuable wicket of Glen Taylor. Wickets then fell at regular intervals as Guiseley attempted to score quickly for victory. Nathan Rosser the Collingham aussie bowled well at the death taking 5 for 65 to leave Guiseley 42 runs short and clinging on in the last over for 2 points with 9 wickets down. Guiseley atempt to kick-start their season into life next week at home to North Leeds. |
