GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS FOLIFOOT (Away) - League

8th JUNE 2002

Guiseley left Follifoot with only 2 points, last Saturday after falling an agonising 8 runs short of the home sides total of 173. But as with the Green Lane game the week before where it was a top order collapse, this week it was the middle order which folded in which 5 wickets fell for only 31 runs to leave opener Mark Ross stranded on 75 not out and batting for the draw.
Follifott batting first made a steady start losing only 2 wickets for 67 runs at drinks, both to opener Chris Thompson, including the scalp of hard hitting batsman Paul Miller for a duck. Follifoot continued to score runs in even time against a good a spell of off-spin bowling from Chris Wain and the reliable Pete graham, but with wickets in hand the acceleration was inevitable at the end with 30 runs scored in the last 5 overs to achieve a total of 173 for 7.
Brian Smart was the hero the Follifoot innings with an unbeaten 95 not out. Runs were scored freely at the start of Guiseley's reply with Mark Ross and Howard Reeve sharing a half century opening partnership, before the latter fell for 14. Glen Taylor and Chris Thompson both crept into double figures before departing and the in form Simon Ross was undone by the off spin of former West Indian test play Derryck Parry, who claimed 5 victims in the match. At this stage Guiseley still required 48 from 8 overs with 6 wickets left in the tent.
While Mark Ross chipped away at the total from his end, the new batsmen found it hard work against Parry with none finding the boundary until PC's late flourish, but it was too little too late as the Guiseley innings closed on 166 for 8, leaving opening batsmen Mark Ross remaining unbeaten and frustrated with a superb 75 not out.
