GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS FOLLIFOOT (HOME) - League

24th AUGUST 2002

4 points were earned from a winning draw at home to Follifoot on Saturday. Points which could prove vital in deciding relegation matters towards the end of the season.
Batting first, Guiseley made 251 for 5 wickets, their highest league total of the season due in the main to an excellent stand of 124 for the third wicket between Glen Taylor (74) and Chris Thompson (68). Late runs were also scored by Ian Chaplin (18 in 10 balls) and skipper Steve Thompson (34 in 30 balls) as the visiting attack was taken apart in the last 10 overs. Brain Smart, the Follifoot opener, once again proved to be the thorn in Guiseley's side batting steadily as wickets fell at the other end.
With 20 overs to go and the run rate up at 7 runs per over a draw looked the most likely outcome, with only 2 wickets down. Andrew Paley, returning for his second spell, had other ideas as he ripped through the Follifoot middle order taking 6 wickets for 34 runs to leave them teetering on the edge of defeat. But time was not on Guiseley's side running out of overs before the final 2 wickets could be taken.
An encouraging performance which will need to be reproduced on a regular basis to ensure division A survival.
