GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
FOLLIFOOT (Home) - Cup Qtr Final
|
|
30th JUNE 2002 |
|
|
|
Despite having five of the regular first team missing, another
fine batting display saw Guiseley reach the semi-final stage of
the Waddilove cup against in form side Follifoot, last
Sunday.
|
|
| Guiseley posted a match winning score of 241
for 7 in their allotted 45 overs with only Glen Taylor failing
to reach double figures. Opener Howard Reeve continued in the
same vein as the previous day hitting 52, while Graeme
Wolfenden assisted with 23 before being trapped LBW by West
Indian spinner Deryck Parry. Reeve then shared in a stand of
64 with Ian Chaplin (49) taking the score to 113. |
|
| Skipper Steve Thompson shared quick runs with
Sean Yeates and Richard Whitaker with hardly a scoring
opportunity being missed before finally missing out on a fifty
being caught off the last ball of the innings for 49. |
| |
| The Follifoot reply was steady due to some
tight bowling from Guiseley stalwart Adrian Threapleton
drafted in as a replacement for the "missing" Neil
Allitt, and the ever reliable Pete Graham. Follifoot reaching
78 for 2 at drinks. Chris Wain bowled an excellent spell
taking the first three wickets for only 30 runs, including
Follifoot captain Chris Newton and the prolific Brian
Smart. |
| |
| As the visitors accelerated towards their
target, thoughts of the previous day's defeat came to mind and
for a short while the bowling and fielding went a little
haywire. But Guiseley, who have been undefeated in cup matches
at Nethermoor for the past five years weren't going to let
this one slip. Some great fielding from wolfy, who took a
storming catch and ran out danger man Sean Ledger and Andy
Paley who took 4 wickets at the death ensured Guiseley's safe
passage into the semi-final against Pool. |
