GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
GREEN LANE (AWAY) - League
1st June 2002 |
The improved batting performance that Guiseley were looking for did not materialise against local rivals Green Lane.
| The Guiseley bowling and fielding has been of a high standard over the last few matches and this was the case again as Green Lane were shot out for 123. Openers Simon Curry and "Shaggy" Lee batted steadily but unspectacularly against miserly opening spells from Andy Paley and Chris Thompson. |
| This opening partnership of 53 should have provided a base for the Green Lane big guns, but the introduction of "Nellie" Allitt into the attack was the turning point as he ripped through heart of the Lane batting taking out their top six batters in a remarkable spell of swing bowling, including the wicket of ex Guiseley big hitter Barry McCormick, finishing with figures of 8 for 45. PC also bowled a tidy spell to help restrict the home side to another "gettable" total. |
| |
| The Guiseley batting was again found wanting as the top order failed to muster a double figure score between them. |
| |
| At one stage Guiseley were 6 for 4 and then 19 for 5 staring an
embarrassing defeat in the face, but a potential match winning stand between Simon Ross (23) and Chris Wain (34) of 65 put Guiseley back in control. Requiring 29 runs for victory with 5 wickets remaining Green Lane's
Aussie Ben Rowe took 4 wickets in 3 overs to scupper their hopes of six points. It was left to PC and Pales to bat out the last 3 overs for the draw and a
disappointing 2 points. |
