GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
NORTH LEEDS (HOME) - League
3rd MAY 2002 |
North Leeds were the visitors to Nethermoor Park on Saturday and went away with full points after another disappointing batting performance from the home side. Set a target of only 141 to win, North Leeds managed to scrape home with just 3 overs to spare and 7 wickets down following some tight bowling and excellent fielding.
| The highlight of the Guiseley innings was a knock of 56 runs from 68 balls by
Joe-Lumb captain Chris Thompson, including 4 sixes. He was ably supported by Glen Taylor (21) and Ian Chaplin (24), but the rest of the team found it hard going against some excellent swing bowling from Nick Richardson who claimed 7 for 58 from his maximum of 25
overs. Neil Allitt was the only other Guiseley player to hit double figures (12
n.o.) in a less than adequate total of 140. The Guiseley spirit was again put to the test, but responded well giving 100% in the field. Neil Allitt bowled a tight spell from the football field end well supported by Pete Graham. Both openers taking 1 wicket each and keeping runs to a minimum. |
| North Leeds being 55 for 2 at drinks. After an indifferent start Andy Paley found his rhythm with instant results taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. Chris Thompson, replacing Pete Graham at the scrapyard end also took 2 wickets to leave the visitors stuggling on 115 for 6. However, the North Leeds skipper, the evergreen Steve Wales, steadied the ship to see his team home. But this was only after losing one more wicket to a magnificent piece of fielding from Craig Chaplin who deservedly gained a league fielding point for his run out of Nigel Leech. |
| More points dropped, but more worrying was the loss of prolific run getter Glen Taylor during the game with a groin
injury and also Mark Ross with an inflamed knee means the
visit of Rawdon next week will be even more tougher. |
