GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
Rawdon (AWAY) - League
|
|
10th May 2002 |

A welcome return to form meant that Guiseley took maximum points from this derby clash with local rivals Rawdon. Although, as is Guiseley's way, it was not without one or two hiccups. Robbed of the services of batsmen Mark Ross and Glen Taylor through injury Richard Whitaker and lucky
talisman Sean Yeates (the 1st XI are unbeaten when Sean plays) were the able replacements. On a bright and sunny afternoon it was Guiseley who won the toss and took the field first.
|
|
| Inroads were soon made into the Rawdon batting Pete Graham claiming the wicket of Rawdon's overseas player Wasim Jan, caught by
Sean Yeates. Neil Allitt bowled a tight but wicket less spell from the football field end, while P.C. continued to chip away at the Rawdon batsmen taking a
further 3 wickets. The introduction of Andy Paley and Chris Wain saw Rawdon reduced to 73 for 65 but a late rally from skipper Dennis Rock (41no) gave the visitors a reasonable total to defend. |
| |
| Newcomer Howard Reeve opened the Guiseley batting with Ian Chaplin in the abscence of Mark Ross and made a solid 29. The mainstay of the Guiseley innings was again the young Chris Thompson who shared partnerships of 39 with Ian Chaplin and 69 with namesake Craig. |
| |
| Guiseley were well on top at this point but the loss of Chris for 48 signalled the middle order collapse which has been a feature of this seasons batting. The run rate began to climb as Guiseley lost 4 wickets for 30 runs mainly due to the tight bowling of Rawdon off spinner Neil Waite. With Guiseley requiring 22 from 5 overs it was left to the experienced Pete Graham to steer Guiseley to their first victory of the season. |
