GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
RAWDON (Away) - League
20th JULY 2002 |
Guiseley's inability to bowl the ball in the same place twice cost them dearly on Saturday as they visited the league's basement side Rawdon. Guiseley posted what should have been a match winning total after being put in to bat after losing the toss.
| Batting well on a damp wicket Guiseley lost only the wicket of Howard Reeve for 12 before drinks whilst scoring at around 4 runs per over. Mark ross (55) and Glen Taylor (31) forged a partnership of 75, taking the
total to 108. this set up a blazing finale from the Guiseley middle order, who scored at nearly ten runs per over for the last ten
overs. Simon Ross, Ian Chaplin and skipper Steve Thompson smashed 10 sixes between them to reach 240 for 5 at the close. |
| |
| Guiseley made early breakthroughs into the Rawdon top order with only Chris Quaife (42) offering any resistance, but the home side were still up with the run rate due to some untidy bowling. |
| |
| The match winning partnership came between Matt Doyle and Rawdon captain Denis Rock who put on 108 for the sixth wicket, with the Guiseley attack unable to stem the flow of runs, despite the best efforts of Andy Paley and Chris Thompson who took 3 wickets apiece. Wicket keeper Pete Smith finished the job when "Rocky" had departed to leave the visitors shellshocked to say the least. |
| |
| At least four points thrown away, with Guiseley needing to learn their lessons if they are not to get sucked into a relegation battle. |
