GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
STEETON (Away) - League
3rd AUGUST 2002 |
A valuable four points were earned with a tremendous fight back, as Steeton looked like they were cruising to victory. With only 34 runs required for victory, 6 wickets in hand and 13 overs left there was only one winner but Pete Graham and off spinner Chris Wain bowled exceptionally at the death to restrict the home side to 161 for 9 at the close.
| Earlier in the day Guiseley having lost the toss, batted first on a damp wicket and posted a reasonable total of 162 with the main contributors being Glen Taylor (56), Chris Thompson (22) and a late flurry from skipper Steve Thompson (21 not out). As in previous weeks though, Guiseley were unable to apply the pressure when bowling due to
inconsistencies in line and length and again let the opposition score at four runs per over. |
| |
| An opening partnership of 51 between Stuart Hudson and Alex Howarth was broken by Chris Thompson, dismissing both batsmen in the space of 8 balls. |
| |
| Andrew Paley clean bowled Aussie Grant Lindsay, but it was the re-introduction of PC into the attack and the prolific turn from spinner Chris Wain which slowed the run rate sufficiently to take the late wickets required to set up an exciting finish. At the start of the last over every result was still possible with Steeton requiring 7 runs for victory and Guiseley needing the last two wickets for full points. PC bowled Stead with his first ball to put the home side on the back foot. |
| |
| Young wicket keeper Patanka did his best to hit the vital boundary but the experience of PC was invaluable as he conceded only a further 5 runs from the remaining 5 deliveries. |
