GUISELEY 1st Team VERSUS
STEETON (AWAY) - League
24th May 2002 |

A lively wicket provided a low scoring game when form team Steeton were the visitors to Nethermoor last Saturday.
| Unfortunately Guiseley were on the wrong end of the
scoreline! Having won an important toss and invited Steeton to bat the opening attack from the football field end was not as economical as it could have been on a helpful wicket. |
| Chris Thompson opening from the scrapyard end bowled a tight spell, taking the wicket of Steeton's prolific overseas Grant Lindsay, who smashed a square cut towards Chris Wain in the gully who pulled off a remarkable diving catch to earn himself 2 league fielding points. The Steeton captain Alex Howarth stuck around for a useful 47, only supported by his colleague Gary Bolton as Pales and PC chipped away at the Steeton line-up. |
| |
| With the score on 115 for 6 with 12 overs remaining it looked like a score of around 150 was on the cards, but "golden balls" Mark Ross had other ideas mopping up the Steeton tail with a devaststing spell taking 3 for 3 in 5.4
overs. This left Guiseley a very gettable 122 to win, but they soon found themselves in trouble, losing their top 3 batsmen for only 22 runs. |
| |
| Australian Grant Lindsay continued to torture the Guiseley batsmen, with only Chris Thompson resisting his pace and movement. He shared a 6th wicket stand of 34 with Chris Wain to put Guiseley in touching distance of victory, but disaster struck as the last 3 wickets fell for only 1 run to leave Guiseley 27 runs short. |
